Danto Builders joined Habitat for Humanity of Broward to celebrate the groundbreaking of Moss Estates at Oakland Park, a new 10-home affordable homeownership community.
At Danto Builders, we spend our days building spaces where people work, grow businesses, care for patients, serve guests, and live their lives.
Projects like Moss Estates remind us just how meaningful the impact of construction can be: helping create a place a family can truly call home.
Earlier this month, our team joined Habitat for Humanity of Broward for the groundbreaking of Moss Estates at Oakland Park, a new 10-home affordable homeownership community in Broward County. The community is supported by a generous $1 million gift from Bob and Sandra Moss and a $300,000 contribution from Publix Super Markets Charities.
The groundbreaking also marked the beginning of an even broader community effort surrounding Moss Estates and the 2026 Hard Rock Women Build. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is serving as Title Sponsor, the Jack B. Rettig Foundation as Presenting Sponsor, with Home Sponsors including JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Women in Real Estate (WIRE), AutoNation, the Berry Family/Florida Girls Giving Back, Nancy Daly and Franz Walkow, Rick Case Automotive Group, UKG and others.
It was a wonderful ceremony, and one of the highlights was hearing Bob and Sandra speak about the project and what homeownership can mean for a family. For those of us who work in South Florida construction every day, it was a powerful reminder that what gets built can have an impact for generations.
Habitat Broward: Building Homes, Communities and Hope
Habitat for Humanity of Broward has been helping local families pursue affordable homeownership since 1983. To date, the organization has built 514 homes throughout Broward County, in addition to sponsoring homes internationally.
But Habitat's work extends well beyond building houses.
Families who participate in Habitat Broward's homeownership program are active partners in the process. Future homeowners volunteer with Habitat, participate in education designed to prepare them for successful homeownership, and purchase their homes with affordable mortgages.
The long-term impact can be significant. Research conducted by the Jorge Pérez Metropolitan Center at Florida International University found that 87% of Habitat Broward homeowners reported feeling true stability after becoming homeowners, while 92% reported healthier households and 79% said they felt relaxed and confident about their finances.
Those numbers help explain why affordable homeownership matters. A home can provide more than shelter. It can give a family stability, a sense of community, an opportunity to build equity, and a foundation for what comes next.
Moss Estates will continue that work with 10 new homes in Oakland Park, each designed with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, approximately 1,500 square feet, and a two-car garage.
When the Construction Community Comes Together
As a South Florida commercial general contractor and luxury residential builder, we know firsthand how much goes into bringing any project from an idea to reality.
It takes planning. It takes skilled trades. It takes committed partners. Most of all, it takes people willing to work together toward a common goal.
That is one of the things we appreciate most about Habitat Broward. Its projects bring together businesses, construction professionals, real estate organizations, volunteers, donors, and future homeowners to accomplish something none of them could do alone.
Moss Estates is a great example of that spirit.
Next Up: The 2026 Hard Rock Women Build
The groundbreaking was just the beginning.
On October 23 and 24, Moss Estates will host the 2026 Hard Rock Women Build, bringing volunteers together to help construct homes while raising support for Habitat Broward's affordable homeownership mission. Habitat describes Women Build as a community-driven initiative where women and men come together to help build strength, stability, and self-reliance through housing.
At Danto Builders, we are especially proud to support the WIRE (Women in Real Estate) House. WIRE is a Home Sponsor for this year's Women Build, and we are proud to support our friend Traci Miller of Miller Construction, which is participating as a Team Build Sponsor.
For a company rooted in South Florida commercial construction, being able to support efforts like this is another way our industry can use what we know and what we do to strengthen the communities where we work and live.
There’s Still Time to Make a Difference
If you have not had a chance to get involved, there is still time.
Whether you sign up to help build with WIRE or another group, sponsor a home, volunteer, or support Habitat Broward in another way, there is something special about knowing you are helping a family build not just a home, but a stronger future.
We are excited to see Moss Estates officially underway and look forward to watching this new Oakland Park community take shape.
Sometimes, building something great starts with simply deciding to lend a hand.
